Frank Rosenwein joined The Cleveland Orchestra as principal oboe at the beginning of the 2005-06 season. From 2002 to 2005, he served as principal oboe of the San Diego Symphony and San Diego Opera. He has also served as guest principal oboe with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. In addition, Frank is a devoted teacher. He is head of the oboe department at the Cleveland Institute of Music and has taught many masterclasses, most recently at DePaul University in Chicago, and at Penn State. His chamber music experience includes two summers at Marlboro and performances with the Mainly Mozart Festival in San Diego and the Seattle Chamber Music Society. Born in Evanston, Illinois, Mr. Rosenwein holds a bachelor of music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied with former Cleveland Orchestra Principal Oboe John Mack, and a master of music degree from the Juilliard School of Music, where he studied with Elaine Douvas, principal oboe of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Mr. Rosenwein has appeared as soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Elgin Symphony, the Skokie Valley Symphony, and the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra. He has participated in various summer music festivals, including Tanglewood, Verbier (Switzerland), and the Spoleto Festival.
