The Orchestra

The SVSO is a 65+ piece community orchestra made up of talented nonprofessionals with selected professional support. We present 4 or 5 concerts a year of exciting, demanding, standard orchestral repertoire.

The concerts are held at the beautiful 850-seat North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie. There are 6 to 7 rehearsals for each concert, on Thursdays, with an additional rehearsal on the Monday before the concert, from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m.

The Skokie Valley Symphony Orchestra auditions for the 2011-2012 season will be held by appointment. We have openings for Principal Cello, Bass Clarinet, Contrabassoon, Principal French Horn, and section French Horn. There are also openings in the viola section. Auditions for our sub list for other positions will be held at the same time. Previous orchestral experience is preferred. All interested players must audition.

Rehearsals are held at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts 7:00 to 9:30 pm most Thursdays from September through May, with additional Monday night rehearsals the week of the concert.
